How Things Work by OKIDO

Stylised Illustrations and stunning design on every page … it has a prize position on my family’s bookcase. Science and art taught though play and activities. It’s another wonderful book by people who understand what children (and adults) want. I’m a huge fan of OKIDO, this has strengthened my admiration for what they do.

If you have kids, nephews, nieces, little brothers or sisters, friends with kids, god children, friends who are teachers, graphic designers, scientists or illustrators – this is the perfect gift!

I give it the magpie seal of approval.

OKIDO Trailer

Okido is a kids TV series aimed at 3-5 year olds. The show explores the everyday questions that children everywhere ask – the science we come across in the world around us.

Messy Monster, representing every child’s curiosity, wonder and Imagination, leads us on a journey under the bed, through the Vortex of Socks and into Okido World, where anything is possible and every question leads to a new adventure.

Okido is based on the popular Okido magazine.

OKIDO The Arts and Science Magazine for Kids

Okido is the brainchild of multimedia designer and scientist, Dr Sophie Dauvois and illustrator Rachel Ortas, and is beautifully illustrated by contemporary artists and designers.

OKIDO

It’s recommended for children between 3 – 8, this is just a guideline though: I’m 32 and absolutely love the magazine.

My local children’s bookshop Ottie & the Bea sells the magazine and always has a few back issues. I can never resist buying a few.

You can also subscribe to the magazine through their website.
